Take the salt cave home with you!

Salt is the Mineral of Life!

Have you ever wondered why people living around the Mediterranean Sea and other bodies of water high in salt content tend to have healthy skin, few respiratory issues, and overall well-being? Did you know that for centuries people have found that breathing salt air found inside salt caves have produced the same health benefits?

Now You Can Have Salt Cave Therapy in Your Own Home!

Convenient, drug-free and non-invasive.

WHAT IS SALT AIR INHALATION THERAPY?

Known as Halotherapy (halo=salt), salt air inhalation therapy is an easy-to-use drug-free method that eases symptoms of respiratory discomforts. The salty atmosphere of salt caves has been used for centuries to benefit the respiratory system.

Today's salt inhalers were designed to recreate a similar micro climate, providing that same salt cave therapy at home.

Daily use for several minutes a day can:
• Ease breathing
• Open airways
• Benefit the respiratory system
• Thin mucus and ease expectoration

Salt-Air can be very helpful for respiratory problems caused by:
• Pollen & Other Allergies
•  Asthma
• Influenza & Other Infections
• Dehydrating, Recycled Air Aboard Airlines
• Smoking

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Himalayan salt crystals are placed between two porcelain filters inside the refillable inhaler. As you inhale through the mouthpiece, the moisture of the passing air absorbs microscopic salt particles which permeate through the respiratory system.  The humidity in the air is sufficient to enrich the air with minute salt particles when the air passes the salt crystals.  Hence a micro-climate of the salt cave has been created.

WHO CAN USE SALT AIR INHALERS:

Anyone can use salt air inhalers and enjoy the benefits from salt air inhalation therapy.  Young children may also use salt air inhalers provided that they understand the concept of breathing in through the mouth and exhaling through the nose.

HOW TO USE:

  • Remove silicone plug from bottom of salt air inhaler and fill with Himalayan salt crystals
  • Place mouthpiece between your lips and draw air gently through your mouth - exhale through your nose
  • DO NOT EXHALE BACK THROUGH THE DEVICE
  • Do not add water, the inhaler is for dry therapy only
  • Recommended duration of usage is 15-25 minutes per day
  • Use regularly all year round for best results
CLEANING, STORAGE, AND CHANGING THE HIMALAYAN SALT CRYSTALS:
For best results we recommend replacing the salt crystals every month.  However, the salt crystals can be replaced with less frequency depending on level of usage and if inhaler is kept clean and free of moisture.  If salt crystals become moist or wet, do not use inhaler.  Before replacing salt crystals, rinse the inhaler with warm water and make sure the inhaler is completely dry before refilling.  Use a hair dryer to dry completely if necessary.
DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF DETERGENTS.  DO NOT USE DISH WASHER TO CLEAN.
Store in a dry, cool place - away from direct sunlight.

Lavender has a scent that’s a wonderful blend of fresh, floral, clean, and calm. It’s this dynamic aroma that has made the flower a classic for perfumes, soaps, fresheners, and beauty products. This makes lavender oil a great beginner oil and a must for every home.  It is widely used for its calming and relaxing qualities which continue to be Lavender’s most notable qualities.  Because lavender is so versatile, this oil can be infused into many areas of your life!

Lavender essential oil may be beneficial in a variety of conditions, including insomnia, decreasing anxiety and stress, even helping with alopecia (hair loss).

Scientific evidence suggests that aromatherapy with lavender may slow the activity of the nervous system, improve sleep quality, promote relaxation, and lift mood in people suffering from sleep disorders.  Several small studies suggest that lavender aromatherapy may help reduce agitation in people with dementia.

Lavender oil is often used in other forms of integrative medicine, such as massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic manipulation.   Massage with essential oils, particularly lavender, may result in improved sleep quality, more stable mood, better concentration, and reduced anxiety. In one study, people who received massage with lavender felt less anxious and more positive than those who received massage alone.

Aromatherapists use lavender in inhalation therapy to treat headaches, nervous disorders, and exhaustion. Herbalists treat skin ailments, such as fungal infections (like candidiasis), wounds, eczema, and acne, with lavender oil. It is also used in a healing bath for joint and muscle pain.

• Inhalation: 2 to 4 drops in 2 to 3 cups of boiling water. Inhale vapors for headache, depression, or insomnia. If you have asthma, talk to your doctor before using essential oil inhalations to see if they are right for you.

• Topical external application : For ease of application, add 1 to 2 drops per tbsp. of base oil (such as almond or olive oil).

Other Uses:

 • Add a few drops of Lavender to pillows, bedding, or bottoms of feet at bedtime to promote a restful night's sleep.
 • Keep a bottle of Lavender on hand to soothe occasional skin irritations.
 • Freshen your linen closet, mattress, car, or the air by combining Lavender with water in a spray bottle.
 • Create a DIY room freshener with Lavender or diffuse it to banish stale odors.
 • Add to bath water to soak away stress or apply to the temples and the back of the neck.
 • Unwind with a Lavender-infused neck or back massage.
 • Treat yourself to this well-loved aroma by adding a few drops of oil to lotions, shampoos, and skin care products.
 • Create a spa-like retreat by combining 1/2 cup Himalayan salt and 4 drops oil and adding to a hot bath.
 • Make a basic homemade body scrub with coconut oil, sugar, and Lavender essential oil.
 • Use in cooking to soften citrus flavors and add a flavorful twist to marinades, baked goods, and desserts.

The Neti Pot naturally cleanses, refreshes, and protects the nasal passages, one of our body’s first lines of defense against illness.

Neti pots are typically made of metal, glass, ceramic or plastic.  They rely on gravity, along with head positioning and repeated practice in order to rinse the outer sinus cavities.  Typically they have a spout attached near the bottom, sometimes with a handle on the opposite side.

Jala neti is an ancient Indian yoga technique, meaning literally “water cleansing”, where the practitioner rinses out the nasal cavity with salted water.  The container used to administer the saline is called a "neti pot". This process removes mucus and dirt and clears the nose. A simple yet effective technique is to pour salt water solution into one nostril and let it run out through the other while the mouth is kept open to breathe, using gravity as an aid.

For this technique, sterilized and lukewarm salt water is poured into one nostril, so that it leaves through the other. Use of distilled, sterile or previously boiled and cooled water over ordinary tap water is advised. The solution used should be distilled, sterile or previously boiled due to the risks involved with using potentially contaminated water. If this is done the procedure is generally safe.

Saline solutions used in this form of nasal irrigation reduce inflammation. Swelling is a major factor in sinus dysfunction. Removal of mucus plays an important role in sinus health, and nasal irrigation facilitates this by flushing out thickened mucus thus improving clearance and also removing infected material.

This rinse is performed daily usually the first thing in the morning with other cleansing practices.  Sometimes it is done more often such as at the end of the day if you work or live in a dusty or polluted environment.  When dealing with problems of congestion it can be performed up to 4 times a day and has been shown to speed up the healing process for common colds.

BENEFITS:
   ~Reduction of allergy problems
   ~Improvement to breathing
   ~Elimination of post-nasal drip
~Elimination of sinusitis or chronic sinus infections
~Common colds are either avoided or the duration greatly shortened
   ~General improvement to sinus health

HOW TO USE:

1.  Fill the neti pot just below its lip with warm water.

2.  Add ½ teaspoon of Himalayan salt and stir until it is thoroughly dissolved.

3.  Bend over the sink and turn your head to one side, keeping the forehead at the same height as the chin, or slightly higher.

4.   Gently insert the spout in the upper nostril so it forms a comfortable seal.

5.  Breathe through your mouth and raise the neti pot gradually so the saline solution flows in through your upper nostril and out of the lower nostril.  Let gravity do the work. Play around with the angle of your head if you are having problems with the water flowing out the other nostril. Do not sniff!

6.  Use half the saline solution in the pot and then face the sink and exhale vigorously without pinching the nostrils.

7.  Repeat the flushing on the other side.   Again, exhale vigorously to clear the nasal passages.

If you experience an uncomfortable sensation, adjust the level of salt. Sometimes too little salt can be as uncomfortable as too much salt.

TIPS:
1.   Thoroughly clean your neti pot after each use. Periodically place it in your dishwasher for a thorough sanitizing. Same as a toothbrush, do not share your neti pot with anyone else. Everyone in the household should have their own.

2.  You may notice improved breathing, smell and taste.

3.  If you experience any discomfort please discontinue using your neti pot and consult your doctor or other health care provider.

4.   After the nasal wash you may need to do a few simple exercises to expel any saline solution remaining in your nose.
~Exhale vigorously through both nostrils while holding your head over the sink. Quickly drawing the abdomen toward the spine with each exhalation will make your exhalations more forceful. If you exhale into a tissue, be careful not to pinch the nostrils closed while exhaling.

A smudge stick is a bundle of dried herbs, usually bound with string into a small bundle. The herbs are later burned for purifying, cleansing, and protection.  This ritual is known as sage smudging – and it’s practiced by burning the bundle of dried sage and then directing the smoke onto the areas that you want to clear or protect.

In this very simply way, the energy of white sage, brings cleansing, protection, and blessings into the space it’s burned in.  The smoke attaches to negative energies, and as the smoke then begins to dissipate it transforms those negative energies into universal energy. And so, your intention for cleansing, clearing and protection is fulfilled.

Steps for Sage Smudging (Cleansing) Your Home:

1. Set A Clear Intention
Your intention is immensely powerful when it comes to cleansing with white sage. Make your intention clear. (ie. cleansing, protection)

2. Treat Sage Like Incense
Light your sage at the very tips of the leaves, and once ignited, quickly (but carefully) blow out the flames to allow the leaves to smolder.
It’s the wafting of the smoke, not the flames that allows the cleansing energy of sage to be released into your energy and space. In addition, turn off fans, and close windows and doors to minimize wind, and drafty breezes.

Once your sage is smoldering, hold it over a fire-safe bowl, plate, or shell so you don’t drop ashes on yourself or in your home.  You can then waft the smoke using a feather, your hand, or by actually moving the sage upwards and then down in a smooth motion.

3. Use Smooth Movements When Smudging

While you’re smudging, use smooth movements when wafting the smoke around your home, body, or objects.

When smudging your house, you’ll want to start from the back of the house and move to the front. If you have multiple levels, start from the bottom of the house and move to the top.  When you have selected the room you’re going to start smudging in, begin in one corner of the room and move methodically around the room.

As you smudge, make sure to waft the smoke up towards the ceiling and down to the floor, starting from the bottom and moving to the top. Try to get behind furniture and in all other nooks and crannies in the space.  When you reach a window or door, waft the smoke into all four corners, beginning at the bottom left and moving in a clockwise direction.  Open cabinets and closets and waft inside.  The last room you smudge should be the one with the front door.  When you’re finished, move outside and waft around the four corners of the door.

Steps for Cleansing Your Energy With Sage:

The steps for using white sage for cleansing your own energy are very similar to the above process described to energetically cleanse your home.

1. Begin by setting your intention to cleanse your mind, body, and spirit of density, stuck or stagnant energy, and negativity in any form.

2.  Carefully light the tips of your white sage, so they start to smolder and smoke.

3.  Begin at your feet, allowing the smoke to waft around you, and work your way up along your body, towards the top of your head.  As you move the sage around you, hold the intention for cleansing negativity, and gently waft the smoke in an upward direction.  Do your best to waft the smoke behind you as well as in front of you and along your sides.  If someone else is helping to smudge your energy, have them stand in place while wafting, while you turn in a few slow clockwise circles. They should also move the bundle from bottom to top.

When finished, close with a prayer of gratitude.

Negative ions are oxygen atoms charged with an extra electron. They are odorless, tasteless and invisible molecules that we inhale in abundance in certain environments. They are created in nature by the effects of water, air, sunlight and the Earth’s inherent radiation. Think mountains, waterfalls and beaches. Once they reach our bloodstream, negative ions are believed to produce biochemical reactions that increase levels of the mood chemical serotonin, helping alleviate depression, relieve stress, and boost our daytime energy.

In high enough concentrations, negative ions clear the air of mold spores, pollen, pet dander, odors, cigarette smoke, bacteria, viruses, dust and other hazardous airborne particles. They do this by attaching to these positively charged particles in large numbers. This causes the germs, mold, pollen and other allergens to become too heavy to stay airborne. At this point they drop to the floor or attach to a nearby surface. This removes them from the air you breathe and prevents them from causing respiratory problems and other health issues.
Modern appliances, such as TV's, microwaves, computers and cell phones emit positive ions that can cause headaches, insomnia, poor concentration as well as weakening the immune system. A USB salt lamp plugged into your laptop or desktop computer will neutralize the surrounding air, reducing positive ion complications.

Pierce J. Howard, PhD, author of The Owner's Manual for the Brain: Everyday Applications from Mind Brain Research, says “Generally speaking, negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy.” “They also may protect against germs in the air, resulting in decreased irritation due to inhaling various particles that make you sneeze, cough, or have throat irritation.” “I would advise anyone who experiences clinically significant depression to try negative-ion therapy.”

Natural Himalayan salt lamps permeate the air with negative ions, same ions found at the ocean, waterfalls or electric storms. That’s why we feel stress-free and re-energized while at the beach. That taste in the air and feeling you get at the beach, near a waterfall or after a storm is your body being saturated in the benefits of negative ions.

Salt lamps are hygroscopic, which means it attracts moisture and humidity (air-borne water molecules). Once attracted to the salt lamp, these microscopic compounds remain on the salt and not floating in the air where you can breathe them in. When the salt lamps are lit, the heat source accelerates evaporation which then produces the negative ions that are beneficial to our health; one reported test showed significantly more negative ions after a few days of having the salt lamp on in the room tested versus the initial test. The heat produced also re-releases water vapor back into the air. Importantly, any airborne contaminants attracted to the salt lamp remain trapped there and will not become airborne again.

Occasionally, perhaps every few weeks, it’s good to turn off your salt lamp for an hour, let it cool and then gently rub it with a damp cloth to clean away trapped dust and particles. The rest of the time just leave it on and let it work to clean the air in your room.

A salt bath is great for dry skin because it helps to hydrate the skin and decreases inflammation.  The silky sensation should last on the skin after the bath too!

The minerals present in Himalayan salt have properties that include creating and promoting healthy cell regeneration, pH balancing, skin permeability and elasticity, moisture-retention and protection from allergies and infections.

The salt bath allows salt to be stored in the upper layer of the skin and binds water. This maintains the natural, protective film of the skin so the skin does not dry out.

While bathing, toxins are released into the bath water and the minerals from the salt are absorbed through the skin. This reduces the acidity in our body and gets rid of skin-irritations. Calluses on the skin become smooth and supple again.

Mix together:

  • 1/2 cup Himalayan salt
  • 1/2 cup Oatmeal

Place the Himalayan salt and oatmeal mixture into your bathtub and add enough hot water to cover the mixture. After about 20 minutes the salt will have dissolved. You can also stir the water to dissolve the salt faster. After the salt has dissolved fill the bathtub with hot water.

Bathe for about 30 minutes. After the bath do not shower off or rub dry, but gently pat your skin and let the body air-dry naturally.
